I recently read a great post by Sian, who also founded A Film Club, of which I am a member. It was 5 songs that remind me of films. I loved it and after asking her if I could, I have decided to post my version.
Do you ever do that? Hear a song and instantly think of a film or a scene from a film? There are so many to choose from. But these seem to be the ones I’m hearing this week on the radio, the telly, or when my iTunes or Spotify is on shuffle.
So, I Married an Axe Murderer (1993)
There she goes by the Boo Radley’s
This upbeat song always makes me think of this movie and the scenes within it. If you’ve not seen it I recommend you do. It’s not what has now become a ‘typical Mike Myers movie’. It has a fantastic cast with lots of recognisable faces and shows off San Francisco making you want to go there.
Hackers (1993) & Mortal Kombat (1995)
Halcyon and on and on by Orbital
I first heard this song when I watched Hacker and then again in Mortal Kombat. I couldn’t find a good enough clip of the Hackers opening title sequence. Which was a shame as that uses the song as a perfect introduction.
Hackers and Mortal Kombat couldn’t be more different from each other. But that just shows the power of a song to transform a scene.
Who wants to live forever by Queen
There were so many Queen songs to choose from in Highlander. But this is the one that reminds me of the film the most. It’s melancholy.
Romeo + Juliet (1996)
I’m Kissing You by Des’ree
I loved this film and bought the soundtrack after seeing it. This song always reminds me of the scene where Romeo and Juliet meet. It’s a really clever adaptation from the play. Where Romeo and Juliet have a lot of dialogue. But in the film, they don’t actually speak that much when they first meet. As they use this song to help convey what’s going on.
The Holiday (2006)
Let Go by Frou Frou
I could have said this song always reminds me or Garden State. It does on occasion but not as often as The Holiday. Especially at this time of year.
